Join me next June for this winter hiking trip to Tasmania, walking the world renowned Overland Track

We will start in Launceston and then transfer to Cradle Mountain to commence our 6 day trek on the world famous Overland Track.

This walk is fully self supported and you will be carrying all of your own gear, food and cooking equipment. Approx. 15 - 18kg pack on day 1

Each night we will stay in the excellent huts that have been set up on the track, and we will finish the walk by transferring by boat along lake St Clair to our meeting place at Lake St Clair Lodge where we will be met by our mini bus transfer back to Launceston.

We will have 2 nights in a hotel before the flight home.

Along the way we will have time 1 or 2 summits. Mt Ossa, Pelion East and Mt Oakleigh are within reach.

You may think I’m crazy walking in winter but from experience I can tell you that the weather is normally very stable and clear. Cold yes, but its great for hiking and adds to the fun. I have walked the Overland Track many times and always in winter. In my opinion, its the best time of year to hike in Tassie.

Detailed Itinerary

Sat June 5 – Fly Brisbane – Launceston

                        Airport transfer and overnight Launceston

Hotel accommodation

Sun June 6 – Early start. Private Van transfer to Cradle Mountain visitors center

                          Commence walk to Waterfall Valley Hut (4 - 5 hrs)

Mon June 7 - Walk from Waterfall Valley hut to Pelion Hut (6.5 - 8.5 hrs)

Tues June 8 – Day to attempt summits or to rest. Mt Oakleigh or Mt Ossa

Stay another night at Pelion Hut

Weds June 9 – Walk from Pelion Hut to Kia Ora Hut (3 - 4 hrs)

Option to climb Mt Pelion East on the way

Thurs June 10 –Walk from Kia Ora Hut to Bert Nicholls Hut (3 - 4 hrs) 

Fri June 11 – Walk to Narcissus Hut in time to catch the ferry along Lake St Clair to Lake St Clair Lodge (3 - 4 hrs)

Pick up at approx 2pm for our private van transfer to Launceston

Sat 12 June - Day at leisure Launceston

Sun 13 June - Morning at leisure before transfer to Launceston Airport and our flight back to Brisbane

The Overland Track is a serious undertaking in remote Tasmania and while it is relatively safe, it should only be considered by fit, experienced and well equipped hikers.
